“I was extremely concerned to learn that County Executive Ball has paid 4 county staffers in his office more than $101,000 in campaign funds over the past 3 years.
Even more disturbing, one employee, who is Calvin Ball’s campaign manager, was individually making decisions about what the community was allowed to see through the state-required public access process—without any training to do so.
Additionally, serving as a campaign manager, a role that places emphasis on fundraising, while also advising and scheduling meetings for the County Executive on issues, including those related to developments, raises serious concern.
This is a substantial breach of trust and transparency. In Howard County, we should expect our leaders to do what is best for our community—not what is best for their personal political interests. Howard County deserves better.
Further, I think the revelations brought to light deserve serious investigation as to their possible violation of County and State ethics and campaign finance laws.
Overall, County Executive Ball’s actions demonstrate the need for an independent Inspector General in Howard County to ensure that our government officials are held accountable.”
