In a letter dated May 17th, Allan Kittleman continued his call for the County Council to fix funding gaps found in County Executive Calvin Ball’s recent budget submission.
In the letter, Allan Kittleman detailed several funding shortfalls including:
–$9 million for special education funding
–$27 million for instruction
The County Executive’s proposed reductions in the Board of Education request will greatly harm the HCPSS’ ability to meet the Blueprint for the Future and to continue to provide an excellent education for all our students. These reductions will negatively affect our special education program and school staffing including minority liaisons. It will result in fewer counselors and psychologists at a time when we need to do more to address the mental health issues facing our students.
-Allan Kittleman, letter to Council Chair Opel Jones, May 17th
The Council will meet this week to discuss restoring funding to the HCPSS budget and fix the funding gaps left by Calvin Ball.
