On-going petition, new TV ad show Calvin Ball ‘has failed our kids’

WEST FRIENDSHIP, MD – Allan Kittleman today renewed his call for County Executive Calvin Ball to return School Resource Officers (SROs) to local middle schools, saying that securing the safety of the county’s students can’t wait until after the election.

As part of Allan Kittleman’s Day One Game Plan, Kittleman is committed to improving safety for our students and teachers, reversing County Executive Ball’s policy of removing SROs, and directing them to all Middle Schools.
In 2021, Ball removed SROs from middle schools. Since then, Kittleman has joined parents, former county police chiefs and many others in calling for the reinstatement of the SROs.

“When classes resumed for the 2022-23 school year, more than 13,000 middle school students went back to school without protection,” Kittleman said. “With incidents of school violence rising, there is absolutely no reason to keep our specially trained SROs out of our schools.”

In a new TV commercial that started running last week, a Howard County mom whose child attends Howard County Public Schools, shared her concerns about County Executive Ball’s actions to remove School Resource Officers (SROs) from Middle Schools.

“When it comes to school safety, Calvin Ball failed our kids,” she said in the 30-second video.
“When something happens, every minute matters. I’m voting for Allan Kittleman because he is committed to our children’s safety, and will reinstate the SROs”, she adds.

As of last week, more than 1,300 people have signed the petition to reinstate school resource officers immediately. Click here to view and sign the petition.
