Kittleman Releases New Ad Touting Efforts to Rein in Over-Development
Ellicott City – A new ad released by the Committee to Elect Allan Kittleman touts several accomplishments of his Administration to ensure transparency and accountability in the development process.
“Allan Kittleman kept his promise to make the county government accountable and transparent to the people of Howard County, especially in the development process. His administration has tackled some tough problems that nobody else would touch, like re-evaluating the Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance (APFO),” said campaign manager Sean Murphy. “And, the Plan Howard Academy is a visionary program that helps create a level playing field for residents when it comes to addressing development in the county.”
Since being elected Howard County Executive, Kittleman led the charge to strengthen the APFO, the county’s tool to curb development, by convening a task force, which included stakeholders throughout the community as well as a representative appointed by each councilmember. The task force spent months working to address issues with the law which had not been seriously reviewed for 14 years.
After taking office, Kittleman also learned that for some, it was too easy to get a project approved, not everyone was being treated equally, and the process was far from transparent at the Department of Planning and Zoning. He took action, clamped down on development waivers, and changed leadership in the department. In fact, the Kittleman administration has denied twice as many development waiver requests than during the previous administration’s final 4 years.
In addition, after a suggestion at one of his town hall meetings, Kittleman came up with an innovative solution called PlanHoward Academy to help residents become better involved and more knowledgeable about the development process. The program has already graduated two classes of students.
This is the third ad since the primaries that the Kittleman campaign has released. The two previous ads, “I’m voting for Allan Kittleman” and “H-O-N-E-S-T” feature prominent Democrats and Independents who are voting to re-elect Kittleman. The ads can be found here and here.
Allan Kittleman was elected to serve as Howard County’s 9th County Executive and sworn into office on December 1st, 2014. Since taking office, the Kittleman Administration has earned high marks for turning around an inherited $16M budget deficit and closing with a $28M surplus just 24 months later through effective management and fiscal prudence.
In three years as County Executive, Kittleman has proven himself to be a moderate focused on improving the lives of families in Howard County. Kittleman has fought to create jobs, improve schools, and reduce traffic congestion in Howard County. Kittleman made rebuilding Ellicott City a priority after the floods of both 2016 and 2018, focused efforts on celebrating the County’s diversity, and turned Downtown Columbia into a reality, all in a fiscally prudent and open manner.
